As we welcome the month of June, I would like to take a moment to recognize the incredible work that each of you contributes to the success of Orange County. Whether you’re managing teams, projects, or services, your leadership continues to make a significant difference in the communities we serve. Summer is often a time for renewal and reflection, providing an excellent opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and reinforce the values that guide our Association—collaboration, advocacy, and professional growth. The OCMA Board continues to work diligently on your behalf, ensuring your voices are heard and your interests are represented.
OCMA Initiatives and Updates:
- Ongoing Performance Conversations (OPC): We are actively engaging with County leadership regarding the OPC process, which now serves as the method for evaluating County Managers’ performance and granting merit increases. We’ve voiced concerns about directives that may limit higher performance ratings and are advocating for a fair and transparent evaluation system. If you’ve encountered requests to alter evaluations, please share your experience with us at contact@ocmanager.com. Your feedback is invaluable and will remain confidential.
- Professional Development Opportunities: Plans are underway for fall programs designed to enhance leadership skills and support career growth. These initiatives will be tailored to address the evolving needs of our members.
- Member Survey: We are preparing a survey to gather your insights on what you value most and how we can better serve you. Your participation will help shape the future direction of OCMA.
- Mid-Year Membership Meeting: Mark your calendars for July 29, when we’ll hold our Mid-Year Annual Membership Meeting at the CAS building. This event will provide an opportunity to discuss ongoing initiatives and connect with fellow members.
- Recent Protests: In light of the recent protests occurring throughout Orange County, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the concerns some of you may have regarding personal safety, workplace security, and operational continuity. First and foremost, your safety and well-being remain our highest priority. We are actively monitoring the situation and maintaining close communication with county leadership and local law enforcement agencies to ensure that all necessary precautions are being taken to protect county employees and facilities. If your work location has been directly affected or you have experienced disruptions, we encourage you to share those experiences with OCMA so that we can advocate effectively on your behalf. Your input is critical as we work with county officials to ensure safety protocols are adequate and consistently applied.
I encourage you to stay connected with OCMA through our website and upcoming events. Your participation and feedback are the heart of our organization.
Thank you for your continued commitment and service. I hope this summer brings you time to recharge and moments to celebrate both personally and professionally.
Warm regards,
Artin Baron
President, Orange County Managers Association
